Objective 2: IMPROVED DATA SHARING

Develop standards, guidelines and procedures for sharing geographic information among organizations. Utilize existing national standards where appropriate.

Priority Action Item:

Develop guidelines for using Framework data as a base for adding new information, which address: technical specifications, data stewardship and distribution policy.

Description of Project:

Prepare a common set of procedures and guidelines that data stewards and framework participants will follow when:

Adding and updating data
Performing QA/QC
Establishing organizational roles and responsibilities
Providing public access to data

Potential Benefits:

Results in data configuration control
Reduces costly duplication in data collection
Ensures that there’s one set of standards that all can follow

On-going use of data will help improve the quality and accuracy of the data

Facilitates seamless data exchange between multiple organizations
Validates the investment in Framework data by insuring currency and availability of data
Improves access to data by Framework participants and the general public
Furnishes a model of standard procedures for non-framework organizations to consider

Project Objectives:

Provide the mechanism for the establishment of guidelines and procedures for:

organizational participation
organizational incentives to participate, and
the inclusion, modification and maintenance of data

Provide the mechanism, guidelines and procedures for establishing muli- organizational data stewardship

Provide the mechanism, guidelines and procedures for access to data by Framework participants and citizens of Washington

Project Tasks and Estimated Effort: Major tasks that need to be completed to accomplish objectives and a high-level estimate of required effort.
