Ensure GIS awareness across a range of public policy and decision-making arenas.

Priority Action Item:

Create a process to strengthen GIS leadership and coordination in Washington. Consider legislation or a Governor’s executive order that recognizes the role of the Geographic Information Council when developing this process.

Description of Project: Investigate avenues to strengthen leadership by investigating

Increased accountability, visibility and responsibility of Council

Organizational structure of Council, relationships with ISB, CAB, local jurisdictions coordination bodies, federal organization

Staff resources avail to council

Generate more dollars to utilize GIS to address key business needs

Provide leadership resources to accelerate GIS implementation statewide

Improve integration of multi-jurisdictional data sets leads to reduction in redundant data collection activities

Coordination leading to sustainable data maintenance programs
