An overview of the statewide Clearinghouse initiative for spatial data and an explanation of how the metadata figures in.

A brief overview of the MCS with emphasis on a basic subset to initiate your organizations data description efforts.

Selecting Collection Tools
An overview of three types of metadata collection tools that will be available for use in the afternoon session: a word processing based template, a web based tool, and a standalone MS Access based tool. These tools facilitate the collection of MCS compliant metadata to varying degrees of sophistication. The type of tool you pick and how you apply it should reflect your organization’s needs.

Mapping Your Metadata to MCS
Utilizing the data description information you brought to the workshop (see 'price of admission'), you match up your data descriptions with the correct MCS fields. Assistance from workshop sponsors will be available.

Creating Metadata With Your Choice of Tools
Using your choice of collection tools (above) and the data description information you brought to the workshop, you create metadata for posting to the Washington State Spatial Clearinghouse Node.

Editing Metadata Using CNS & MP
These clearinghouse utilities 'test' the metadata description and generate the files needed by the Clearinghouse server.

Posting Your Metadata to the Clearinghouse Node
Access the Clearinghouse server via the Internet and post/update you organizations metadata then query it through the national gateway.
